Featuring work inspired by family recipes
Rene Bien is a American artist whose aesthetic is inspired by food, popular culture and art history. Bien finds beauty and mystery in the mundane, transforming common objects into art is that are both ethereal and compelling. Her work explores notions about illusion and truth, loss, primal terror, disorder and distortion, and the surreal experience of living. Her work ranges from images that have a magical, whimsical and toylike innocence to those that are primal, dark and chaotic. She frequently incorporates unconventional materials such as cocoa, sugar, play sand, and glitter in her work. Bien invites the viewer to act as a co-author and create new and unpredictable narratives and associations that provoke unexplored territories of memories, thoughts and emotions. Artist Statement
